The ceiling of the rotunda in Elder Park, Adelaide at night. The rotunda is octagonal in shape and was officially opened in 1882. It was a gift from philanthropist Thomas Elder and was manufactured by MacFarlane’s Saracen Foundry in Glasgow, Scotland. Concrete walls approximately 12 feet in height and several feet thick were built from ground level then back filled creating a large cellar beneath the rotunda.
