The boat men of Varanasi rise early to take the handful of tourists and locals that make the effort to be up at 0530 for a dawn boat ride on the most holiest of rivers in India, the Ganga. Perhaps starting the day with physical exertion is a blessing for some who often sleep in or near their boats on the ghats where temperatures plunge to a few degrees centigrade overnight.
